The Town Council’s survey showed that walking is a popular way for residents to travel around Poynton. 60 respondents said that they would like to use active travel (walk, wheel and cycle) more often, but safety concerns were a significant factor in preventing people from doing this. Of particular concern were uneven pavement/road surfaces and narrow pavements. A safer cycling and walking route to Poynton Railway Station and also to Higher Poynton were the most requested improvements to highways and public footpaths.

As well as responding to the Cheshire East Active Travel Survey, the Accessibility Working Group will now look to work with Cheshire East and other parties to support infrastructure to improve active travel. It will also identify smaller projects that the Town Council can deliver as part of the Town Council’s Strategic Plan. Watch this space!
