At the Annual Town Council meeting on 19th May 2025, councillors elected Cllr Peter Oakes to the role of Poynton Town Mayor with  Cllr Hayley Whitaker as Deputy Mayor.

"Hi, I am Peter Oakes, your new Mayor of Poynton.

Poynton is a lovely place to live and work and it is my aim that this should continue and improve during my year of office and encourage others to come and visit, enjoying what we have on offer.

I moved to Poynton some 14 years ago and joined my 3 daughters and their families, who were already resident here.

I first became involved in the community by joining the Pick and Tidy Group, attacking eyesores etc. around the village. Over the last couple of years, I have been planting daffodil bulbs along London Road South, which I will continue to do in the coming years, bringing more colour to many parts of the village.

Having been a councillor for the last 6 years, I will continue to strive to make our village a more attractive, vibrant, healthy and enjoyable place to live.
