At the Annual Town Council meeting on 18th May 2025, councillors elected Cllr Hayley Whitaker to the role of Poynton Town Mayor with  Cllr Peter Oakes as Deputy Mayor.

“I am grateful to have been elected as Mayor of Poynton for a third term and would like to thank residents, fellow councillors and the Town Council staff for their continued support. Well done to my predecessor Cllr Oakes for raising a record-breaking sum of money for his charity Open Hands, you have been a great Mayor for Poynton. Thank you. Over my previous mayoral terms I have enjoyed supporting local charities, organising family activities and celebrating the many events, organisations and businesses that make Poynton such a special place to live. This year, my focus will be on “Connecting People, and Strengthening Community.” I want to use my role to shine a spotlight on the people, businesses, volunteers, community groups and organisations that contribute so much to our community. Throughout the year I will be visiting local groups and businesses, sharing their stories, recognising community achievements, and encouraging greater connections across Poynton. Alongside this, I will be supporting fundraising efforts that promote the health and wellbeing of young people, working closely with the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Oakes. I look forward to spending the year celebrating the people who make our town thrive.”
