An Introduction to Poynton Town Council's Biodiversity Plan

What is the Biodiversity Plan?

Poynton Town Council want to protect and promote biodiversity in Poynton. This is part of the Town Council's Strategic Plan, to improve and enhance the Town's Biodiversity.

Residents will be encouraged to engage in nature throughout the year and beyond, including:

  • Tracking wildlife on the iNaturalist app
  • Attending free engaging events for adults and families.
  • Using the new Biodiversity Bus Stop on London Road North as a hub.

Support the Biodiversity Plan and be a Wildlife Watcher

In order to support biodiversity in Poynton, we need to understand what species we have in the Town. We are promoting the iNaturalist app, and encouraging people to spot what they can and add these to the app. We will use the observations from contributors to identify potential projects to improve biodiversity and areas in the Town that require additional support to promote and protect the biodiversity that we have. You can download the How To Guide here.

To learn more about the iNaturalist app and how to use it, you can view the instructions below. Scroll down further to learn about the family challenge we are also encouraging people to take part in. You can view the terms and conditions for this here

Families are encouraged to join in for the opportunity to earn prizes. A great way to get outdoors and work together to complete a challenge as a family.

The Biodiversity Bus Stop

The brand new Biodiversity Bus Stop is based in a rarely used bus stop on London Road North, just opposite the entrance to Park Avenue. Cheshire East Council gave Poynton Town Council permission to organise for a mural to be painted here, with Alice at Cheshire Design Studio creating the beautiful artwork.

The Bus Stop is the new hub for The Biodiversity Project and will feature regularly updated information on schemes and events and occasional pop-ups.

Take a closer look when you're next in the area and join in with the project!

The PTC Nature Sessions

To encourage regular engagement with nature and to promote the Wildlife Watcher scheme, a series of free events from March to October will be available to residents.

March's event is the popular Plant and Seed Share.

April's event is a talk from a National Trust Gardener on promoting biodiversity in your own garden.

Keep an eye out here, on our socials and at the Biodiversity Bus Stop for each month's Nature Session announcement. There are exciting things to come, from nature photography, garden safaris, fungal forays and bird box making!

If there are any events you would like to see as part of The PTC Nature Sessions, contact our Events and Marketing Coordinator Jenny on office@poyntontowncouncil.gov.uk.
