East Cheshire Hospice Dementia Carers Wellbeing Programme

Published: 09 April 2024

The course is open to carers of people experiencing dementia and runs for eight weeks. The programme supports carers by developing resilience, knowledge, skills and confidence as well as enhancing coping strategies, developing new ones, sharing experiences, having some respite and gaining peer support from others in similar circumstances.

You can bring the person with dementia and Dementia buddies will take care of them whilst the carer attends the programme, relax in the knowledge they are safe and being supported.

To be eligible for the programme there are some criteria, including the carer should access a GP in East Cheshire and provides regular care support to the person experiencing dementia. Those interested can self-refer or have a professional complete a referral form. For more information please telephone 01625 666990 or here’s a link to the relevant section on their website for the referral form https://www.eastcheshirehospice.org.uk/patients-families/sunflower-centre/dementia-support/

Volunteer opportunity

East Cheshire Hospice are also recruiting new volunteers to their volunteer team who support the programmes and send this message!

Do you have a couple of hours a week to help at our Dementia Carers Wellbeing Programme in the community by supporting the patients alongside our staff? Starting from May, we will be running these sessions each week and we are looking for volunteers to help us!

The volunteers make drinks, chat to patients and help out with activities. All patients are in the early stages of dementia and all sessions are staff-led, so you will be fully supported in the role. Full training is given beforehand including around understanding dementia.

If you are interested in joining or finding out more, please call the Hospice Volunteering team on 01625 610364 or the Dementia team on 01625 666990.

Or visit www.eastcheshirehospice.org.uk and under the "support us" tab you can click “volunteer with us” and then register, and we’ll be in touch!
