Poynton Dementia Steering Group

 

Poynton Dementia Steering Group formed in January 2017, is made up of representatives from Poynton Town Council, local voluntary groups, professionals supporting people living with dementia, dementia services and carers. The group has been instrumental in raising awareness about dementia in Poynton. More recently the group have connected with dementia support networks in Bollington and Disley to reflect the Bollington, Disley and Poynton (B.D.P.) Care Community footprint.

From 2017 Poynton was recognised as one of the Alzheimer’s Societies Dementia Friendly Communities, until in ceased the recognition scheme in December 2023.

Over the years the group have organised Dementia Awareness Information Sessions for local businesses and residents, asked Clickety Click to make Twiddle muffs for people living with dementia, created a flyer with support and social group information, raised awareness of dementia with young people and organised a memory awareness event. More recently the group have been involved with the development of the Time to Talk sessions. These are drop-in sessions for people living with dementia and their carers where they can access support from health and social care professionals.

 

Poynton Town Council and Poynton, Disley and Poynton Dementia Steering Group are pleased to re-launch ‘A guide for people living with memory loss or Dementia and their carers in Bollington, Disley and Poynton’. The document has been reviewed since it was first created and provides advice and contact details of a range of local services, groups and organisations who can help.
