Poynton Updates and News 29/08/2014
Poynton Road Works
The remedial work being carried out under Cheshire East management in Poynton’s shared space area remains on schedule. No problems have been encountered, and the basic infrastructure and design remain robust. The work will finish by close of play Tuesday 2nd September at the latest, and traffic management removed, ready for the return to school the following morning.
Those areas that have been temporarily filled with plain black tarmac (including the London Road South bus stop) are being replaced with permanent tarmac with red stone, to match the original carriageway finish, and all areas will be jet washed at the conclusion of the work.
Given that there is now in excess of 26,000 vehicles a day passing through the centre of Poynton the work has inevitably caused traffic congestion, but the temporary traffic lights are manned during peak times, and the Town Council was insistent that this essential remedial work was carried out during the school holidays, and kept to schedule.

The programme and tickets for this inaugural event, from Friday evening 26th September to Sunday 28th September 2014 are now available, and both can be had from the Civic Hall or from Mates. Annual Garden Waste Collection Shutdown (green bins)
The Cheshire East consultation on this issue, seeking views on the timing and duration of the green bin ‘shutdown’ for the winter of 2014/15, has now closed, and the results published. The shutdown will last for 12 weeks, starting at the beginning of December 2014 and re-starting in mid-February 2015. Precise information will take the form of bin stickers and announcements via the local media.
Civic Hall Roof
The Civic Hall roof will be totally refurbished, with work due to commence on Monday 8th September, for up to 12 weeks. The contractor site will be to the rear of the Civic Hall, and although there will be scaffolding around the building, this work should not disrupt normal business. The Town Council would only ask that you take care when entering, leaving or are in the vicinity of the building while the work is ongoing.

The next Poynton In Business meeting will be held on Wednesday 10th September 2014 at 7.30am at the Civic Hall off Park Lane, Poynton. These include an event called “Over By Christmas”, which will take place at the Community Centre at 11am on Friday 12th September, and at Poynton railway station (booking office side) at 11am on Sunday 28th September, and two performances of ‘Silent Night’, an original and moving play with music that tells of the amazing events surrounding the Christmas truce during the First World War. Performed by Theatre in the Quarter and sponsored by the Town Council and the High School, this will be staged at Poynton High School at 7.30pm on 27th and 28th November 2014. Attention all cyclists!
1. Poynton was recently visited by Allison Duncan, a postgraduate student from America’s Portland State University who is working on a research dissertation on how cyclists treat busy intersections, intersection design and associated issues. There follow links to two surveys regarding Poynton’s shared space junction/Fountain Place and the Woodford roundabout (as a ‘control/comparison site).
Allison has asked if cyclists who use one or both of these junctions would kindly complete these surveys, and also pass them on to other interested parties. Her contact details are given in an explanatory note at the beginning of each survey.
2. Please find below a link to a survey monkey questionnaire for a cycling consultation exercise that Lyme Park is undertaking to understand current cycling usage and the demand for future provision.
The closing date for completion of this survey is Sunday 14th September 2014. Paper versions of this survey will be used at the Disley Cycling event on Saturday 6th September.
