Please help spread the word

The database for the PUN is now around the 2,000 strong. If you know of anyone who would like to subscribe please ask them to e-mail the Town Clerk at Liz.Osborn@poyntontowncouncil.gov.uk and they will be added to the database. If you know of anyone who does not have access to a PC, and you are able to pass on a printed copy, that would also be much appreciated.

Draft Town Strategy: Latest

See the Special Edition PUN that has issued separately on this important subject.

School Lane Revitalisation

Some of the owners and tenants of the School Lane complex want to contribute to making the School Lane retail complex a more attractive and a pleasant place to live and shop. As a start (and hopefully more will follow) they are organising a massive tidy up, starting at 10am this Sunday 26th August, They already have a small team of local volunteers, but if you are in the area, and would like to do your bit to keep this part of Poynton tidy, please come along - you will be made very welcome!

Over the coming weeks the Town Council will be making cosmetic improvements to the appearance of the frontage of the complex. As previously advised, this is part of the ongoing initiative to revitalise all of Poynton's retail areas. We have already trialed a combined planter/bicycle rack and were grateful for the feedback we received. Whilst the concept of the planter was universally popular, its design was not! We are now looking for a better alternative that will be implemented during the Autumn. Other Town Council driven improvements will follow, so watch this space!

Development of the Woodford Aerodrome Site

Following BAE Systems’ sale of the Woodford Aerodrome site, Stockport Council is finalising a draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). This will provide guidance for the future development of the site, which will clearly have an impact on neighbouring Poynton. This draft SPD will be the subject of a statutory six week consultation, which will take place between Monday 3rd September and Monday 15th October 2012.

During this consultation period you are also invited to have your say on the draft SPD at two special public events. These will both take place at the Woodford Community Centre on Chester Road, Woodford, from 3pm to 8pm on Friday 7th September, and from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 29th September 2012.

The Town Council would urge residents to make your views known by attending these events and/or have your say on the draft SPD. For more information visit www.stockport.gov.uk/woodfordaerodrome, e-mail woodfordaerodrome@stockport.gov.uk or call T. 0161 474 4550.

Clifford Road Narrowing

It is important to note that the road narrowing undertaken by Cheshire East Council near the junction of Clifford Road and London Road South is what is known as an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order. A decision will need to be made by Cheshire East Council in due course whether to make this a permanent feature.

Anyone with views for or against the scheme should make them known in writing before 1st December 2012.

Views and comments should be sent by e-mail to cheshireeasttraffic@cheshireeast.gov.uk. Alternatively send or hand in any letters to the Town Clerk (Poynton Civic Hall, off Park Lane, Poynton, SK12 1RB), and they will be forwarded to the relevant department at Cheshire East.

The Town Council will formally review its position on this issue at a council meeting at 8pm on Monday 17th September. Residents are welcome to attend.

Cookware Scam

Residents are being warned to be on their guard against doorstep callers offering to sell cutlery and cookware. The goods appear well presented, and are labelled ‘St Moritz’. Residents are told they are Swiss-made whereas they are made in China. Reputable traders do not trade in this way, and if you are offered such goods please contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on T. 08454 04 05 06.

Lost and Found

A child’s scooter was left in the Civic Hall entrance last week and is in our safe keeping. Speak to our reception staff for details.

REMINDERS

Men In Sheds for Poynton – Drop in Morning

Domestic garden sheds have long been seen as a haven for men to be themselves, and to do the things that interest them. The ‘Men In Sheds’ programme, which has been very successful in Macclesfield, uses this premise to bring men together, including those who might be single, socially isolated, or financially and physically disadvantaged, to create mutually supportive networks and friendship groups. The Town Council is very interested to understand whether there is demand in Poynton for our own ‘Men In Sheds’ project.

To find out it has arranged a drop-in event at the Civic Hall on Saturday morning, 1st September, from 10am to noon. This is a week earlier than originally advertised. Please come along and bring your friends – refreshments will be provided.

Calling all Poynton Businesses!

Cheshire East Council has organised a series of one day Business Hub events at various locations around the Borough. These are fully subsidised by Cheshire East Council and are therefore free, and aimed at anyone considering self employment, at new and established businesses, and at the third sector (charities, social enterprises etc).

The nearest event to Poynton takes place at Macclesfield Town Hall, on Wednesday 12th September. A themed workshop will take place from 7.30am to 9am, followed by an opportunity to network from 9am to 9.30am. From 9.30am onwards one to one appointments are available with a business adviser of the enterprise coach.

For more information or to book a place contact Jacqueline Wilson, Cheshire East Business Engagement Officer, Jacqueline.wilson@cheshireeast.gov.uk

Community Grants from Cheshire East

A report from Cheshire East Council showing the latest round of community grant awards reveals no beneficiaries from Poynton. It is perhaps worth reminding our local organisations again about this potential source of funds. Grants are available for events (up to £250), for activities (up to £500) facilities (up to £3,000) and, more recently, for neighbourhood planning (£250 to £500). The deadline for the next round of applications is 28th September 2012. Further information, including the criteria and application forms, are available on line at http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/community_and_living/community_grants.aspx

2013 Civic Awards

It is not too early to start submitting nominations for the 2013 round of Civic Awards. Those nominated need to have made “a sustained and significant contribution to the community of Poynton”.

All you need to do is prepare a brief citation, stating the reasons for the nomination. These should be submitted to the Town Clerk, in confidence by e-mail Liz.Osborn@poyntontowncouncil.gov.uk or by letter to The Town Clerk, Poynton Civic Hall, off Park Lane, Poynton, SK12 1RB
