Poynton Updates and News (PUN): 10/10/12
NEW
Town Strategy
The Town Council would like to thank those of you who completed the questionnaire on the draft Town Strategy, either in hard copy or on line. The public consultation is now closed, and we will keep you informed about the next stage in the process. The Strategy document can still be viewed at www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/localplan, as can the online responses to the questionnaire.
Remembrance Day Parade and Service
A reminder that this year’s Remembrance Day is Sunday 11th November. There will be the usual parade, accompanied by the VBS Poynton Brass Band, leaving the Civic Centre Car Park at 9.30am sharp, followed by the service and Act of Remembrance at St George’s Church starting at 10am. For all colour and wreath bearers there will be a rehearsal at St George’s at 7pm on Wednesday 7th November. Any further information can be had from the Clerk.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service
Cheshire Fire Authority is the publically accountable body, which manages the fire and rescue service on behalf of local people.
The Authority has now published its annual plan, the draft Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP), for 2013/14 and the years beyond, and a comprehensive 12 week consultation was launched on 24 September, which runs until 17th December 2012. This draft plan is the most significant in the Fire Authority’s 15 year history, as it sets out a number of far-reaching proposals, which have been developed so that it can maintain and improve the services it provides to the local community and make most effective use of its reduced funding.
The plan contains proposals to;
- build up to 5 new fire stations through one-off capital costs
- make significant changes to how fire stations are crewed
- introduce a blanket 10 minute response time, and
- reduce the number of full time fire fighters and increase on-call staff
The proposals would help the Service to meet expected budget cuts of around £5 million over the next four years, but will take a number of years to implement. You can access a summary of the plans, as well as supporting material and a full copy of the IRMP 2013-14 through visiting the website: http://www.cheshirefire.gov.uk/home/current-consultation. You can also complete a resident survey on the plans.
Equally, any written submissions on the proposals are welcome, and can be sent to;

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Community Roadshow
To promote awareness of the partnership between the Deafness Support Network and the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Service’s Community Bus will be undertaking a series of roadshows throughout Cheshire. The purpose of the bus is to provide information to people with a hearing loss about the different types of equipment available for them, as well as Home Safety Assessments provided by the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. The bus will be visiting Poynton on Tuesday 16th October, and will be stationed in the Civic Centre Car Park between 10am and 3pm.
Poynton Royal British Legion Club
Congratulations are due to the Poynton Royal British Legion Club for being voted the CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) Greater Manchester Club of the Year. The Club now goes through to the next round, with the finalists being judged and announced early in the New Year. Cheers!
New member of the Town Council Team
We are delighted to welcome a new member to the Town Council’s team. He is Richard Holland, Operations and Events Manager, who replaces John Brooks. Richard can be contacted on T. 01625 872238, Key 2, or by e-mail reception@poyntontowncouncil.gov.uk
Woodland on the Inclines
The Survey and Risk Assessment on the Inclines woodland, commissioned by the Town Council, has now been published, and can be accessed via the Town Council’s new website from next week. This is an extensive and detailed report, and an Executive Summary is also being prepared, and will also be available for viewing on the website. A drop-in session for those residents whose houses border the Inclines will be arranged for a Saturday morning within the next few weeks, when the Town Council’s policy on the maintenance of Incline trees will be explained, and questions answered. As a general rule, the Town Council will not agree to carry out any ‘cosmetic’ treatment on their trees, most of which are protected, and any work it does undertake in terms of pruning or felling will be largely based on risk.
‘Meet The Funder’ event
Community and Voluntary Services (CVS) Cheshire East have organised this event, which will feature speakers from Children in Need and WREN. It takes place at Poynton Civic Hall on Wednesday 24th October from 9.30am to 12pm. Children In Need supports organisations that are helping disadvantaged children and young people under the age of 18 in the UK , while WREN can provide funding for the updating or improvement of a community building or facility based within 10 miles of a landfill site.
After both speakers have addressed participants there will be opportunities for 1-2-1 surgeries with either or both organisations. These surgeries have limited spaces, and must be booked separately in advance by e-mailing groupdevelopmentteam@cvsce.org.uk or phone t. 01625 428301.
REMINDERS/DIARY DATES
Development of the Woodford Aerodrome Site
Following BAE Systems’ sale of the Woodford Aerodrome site, Stockport Council (SMBC) is finalising a draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). This will provide guidance for the future development of the site, which will clearly have an impact on Poynton. This draft SPD will be the subject of a statutory six week consultation, which is now open, with a closing date of next Monday 15th October 2012. The Town Council would urge residents to make your views known by responding to the consultation. This can be done on line at www.stockport.gov.uk/woodfordspd. For more information please e-mail woodfordaerodrome@stockport.gov.uk or call T. 0161 474 4550.
There is another chance to hear a presentation on the SPD by SMBC officials followed by questions tomorrow, Thursday 11th October, at 6.30pm at the Woodford Community Centre.
Poynton Town Council’s detailed response to the consultation can be viewed or downloaded here. (PDF - you may need Adobe Reader to view file - it is free to download here.)

Higher Poynton Summerfest
Many of you will be aware that this year’s Higher Poynton Summerfest was cancelled due to wet weather, which was a huge disappointment to the hard-working band of volunteers. Arrangements are now in hand for the 2013 event, which has a provisional date of Sunday 21st July 2013. The Friends of the Summerfest are not aware of clashes with any other local event on that day, but if you are, would you kindly get in touch with the Town Clerk asap! The Friends are also looking for coconut shy equipment, a tombola drum and a fortune teller (one who can perhaps also predict the weather?). If you can help with any of this, or would like to join the Friends in helping to arrange next year’s event, please let the Clerk know.
Town Council Website
This is being given a radical overhaul under the management of a new, local webmaster. The new user-friendly site will go live in mid-October, and will be fully functional by early January 2013, with all the relevant content uploaded.
